5) One of the most important elements of Get Up! is building community by sharing information, experiences, and enthusiasm as well as working as a team, and bringing this spirit of community into San Francisco. Why is community important to you and what do you hope to contribute to the Get Up! class community?
*
6) Get Up! is a big commitment. Class sessions include thirteen in-person Saturday sessions and seven in-person or online Thursday sessions in Fall 2024. Do you foresee other commitments interfering with this schedule or affecting your ability to fully participate?
*
7) This program requires participants to complete 50 hours of garden-related community service following completion of Get Up! coursework. As a garden education ambassador, you will support urban gardening initiatives at Garden for the Environment and possibly with other community organizations, implementing your new skills and knowledge. 40 hours will be spent completing a project of your choice at Garden for the Environment or with another San Francisco gardening organization. Ten hours will be spent preparing for and co-teaching a two-hour Saturday Urban Composting class at GFE. Do you anticipate any commitments this winter and coming spring that will affect your ability to complete this program requirement?

8) GFE strives for inclusivity and accessibility. In the garden: The outdoor classroom at the garden is wheelchair accessible, but within the garden there are several steps and many uneven surfaces. There is one all-gender portable toilet, but it is not wheelchair accessible. Microphones are available for instructors and students to use. Online course content: We will work to make all course content as accessible as possible. This includes Google Classroom access (where assignments and announcements will be posted) and webpage, document, and video formatting. Course content: We welcome and celebrate diversity of background, views, and contributions that Get Up! students bring to the group. While we provide activities, readings, and viewings that provide foundational knowledge on gardening, composting, and environmental matters, we encourage sharing of resources that contribute to positive and respectful dialogue, and the augmentation of knowledge and understanding of course-related topics. In what additional ways can GFE accomodate your needs for accessibility and engagement, if any?
9) If you have indicated at the beginning of the application that the sliding scale fee would be cost-prohibitive to you and that you’d like to be considered for the $200 course fee, please elaborate on your situation. You may describe the circumstances which impact your ability to participate, your financial situation, or anything else you feel is relevant. We will use this information to decide how to grant the limited discounted spots.
10) Is there anything else you would like us to know about you?
